The first purpose of Nebulae is simple: to let you experience architecture from the inside. Each space is a place to actually stay — with beds, kitchens, terraces and quiet — not a gallery you walk past.
Light shifts across concrete and glass through the day. Gardens press up against the windows. At night the buildings glow softly from within. You wake up inside the design, and the design gives your days a different shape.

Nebulae is a boutique architectural retreat in the highlands of Barva, Heredia — a small collection of designed spaces you don't just visit, but live inside.
Up to sixteen guests can stay across six signature spaces, set within gardens, water and mountain air. Around that stay, Nebulae opens into something wider: a cultural home for weddings, wellness, music, art and gathering — designed by Alianz Architecture, and shaped over years into a small ecosystem.

Nebulae is designed under the creative direction of architect Eric Bogantes and Alianz Architecture, a studio with more than fifteen years of work, much of it in private homes only a handful of people ever experience.
Nebulae changes that. It takes the same design language and opens it to travellers, couples, artists, teachers and companies. Here, architecture is something you can book a night inside — and carry with you afterward.

For larger productions, the full property — Alianz Compound — can host events of up to 350 guests, with multiple venues, accommodation and professional logistics under one roof.
Wellness & conscious living

At the heart of the property, the open-air Yoga Deck — the Nebulae Shala — holds sunrise practice, meditation, breathwork and sound. Below it, the Water Cube offers a quieter kind of immersion.
Spaces here are made for movement, calm, recovery and presence — for practising, gathering and simply slowing down, held by mountain air and water. Yoga, sound journeys and in-house therapies are available for guests and retreats.

Nebulae hopes to leave a lasting cultural contribution: a place where local and international communities meet around architecture, wellness, music and art — set in the highlands of San Roque de Barva, 20 minutes from the airport.
In mountain air above the Central Valley, it feels like a retreat without being isolated — roughly twenty minutes from Juan Santamaría International Airport, depending on traffic. A natural first or last night in Costa Rica, and an easy base for small groups, retreats and creative teams.
A living legacy
The Rabbit Sanctuary.
One of Nebulae's most unique experiences is its Rabbit Sanctuary — a peaceful ecosystem that has grown for more than eight years as part of the property's identity and philosophy.
What began as a small family project has evolved into a protected natural habitat, where rabbits live freely through a network of tunnels, burrows, shelters and open gardens — letting guests observe them in a calm, respectful environment.
The Loxone baby-rabbit house
A smart home for the smallest.
The sanctuary's most beloved attraction is the baby rabbit house — an automated Loxone Smart Home built to keep newborn rabbits safe and comfortable. Guests are welcome to visit and learn about their daily care, always with respect for their wellbeing.
Care & refuge
Looked after, always.
Nebulae also serves as a temporary refuge for rabbits whose owners are travelling or can no longer care for them. The sanctuary works with experienced caretakers and regular veterinary visits overseeing nutrition, preventive care, health monitoring and the wellbeing of both domestic and exotic breeds.
More than an attraction, it reflects Nebulae's commitment to nature, compassion, education and responsible animal care — a place to reconnect with the quiet rhythm of life.

Weddings at Nebulae are held together with Laureal Event Center — the garden event center woven into the same family property. Where the rest of Nebulae explores contemporary architecture and hospitality, Laureal keeps a quieter, more timeless tradition: ceremonies, family celebrations and life's most meaningful milestones.
For more than ten years, Laureal has been guided by Laura Bogantes, its director and co-owner of the family property — an integral part of the Nebulae vision alongside architect Eric Bogantes. She leads a professional team dedicated to weddings, celebrations and hospitality.
