01 — The encounter
Astra was rescued in February 2024 — a small fragment whose surface carried cracks, wounds and the marks of everything it had lived. Unlike other pieces, it did not reveal its identity quickly.
It waited. David kept it close while the right idea matured, refusing to give it a weak interpretation just to call it finished. Waiting, in Ojo de Arte, is not delay — it is loyalty to the piece.
02 — The form
From the very beginning, its shape evoked a meteorite — a small space rock travelling on its own. Nature had already carved the silhouette; what it was still missing was its orbit.
A small piece that transmits the immensity and mystery of space: proof, in the language of Ojo de Arte, that even the smallest pieces can hold the deepest meanings.
03 — The interpretation
The intention was first to make it perfectly white — an image of purity and peace. During the process, something truer appeared. The white filler that healed its cracks, once sanded, drew a story more powerful than any uniform finish. And when a ring was brought to the piece, it fit with a precision that felt like a confirmation: the fragment became a star with its own orbit. It could only be called Astra.
04 — The light
The ring of light does not decorate Astra — it situates it. Suspended at its centre, the fragment stops being debris and becomes a celestial body: small, scarred and sovereign.
By day the white finish transmits calm. At night, the ring reveals the second reading — the piece floating in its own portion of space.
05 — The making
Inspired in part by the Japanese philosophy of kintsugi, David chose not to hide Astra's imperfections but to make them part of its essence. The repairs remain visible — healed, not erased. The engineering followed the same respect: the ring turns on a rotation system developed specifically for this work, so the orbit itself can be adjusted without touching the wood.
