The concept

became the detail that balances the work.”
01 — The encounter
Horizonte is the only work of Ojo de Arte rescued from a simple board found in the street — picked up in May 2024, cracked, ordinary, the kind of wood everyone walks past.
What could be perceived as a broken plank revealed a hidden landscape and an enormous creative potential. No other piece demonstrates the essence of the practice so directly: discovering value in the simple.
02 — The form
The natural edge of the board rises and falls like a line of hills. The veins flow like terrain seen from far away. Nature had painted a landscape inside the wood — it only needed a sun.
The composition preserves those natural curves exactly as they were found; they are what gave origin to the work.
03 — The interpretation
Horizonte captures the moment the sun begins to show itself above the horizon — the serenity of one of nature's most universal images, the daily promise of a new beginning.
And its crack — far from being hidden — becomes an essential element of the composition: the line of first light crossing the land. A defect transformed into the detail that gives the work its balance, its character and its beauty.
04 — The light
The background illumination and the run of light along the crack recreate the dawn: a textured sun glowing behind the hills of grain, and a thin gold line crossing the land like the first ray of the day.
05 — The making
Horizonte opened a new format for Ojo de Arte: a framed landscape, made to live on a wall like a painting — while remaining entirely sculpture.
More than a year passed between the finding and the final work. The frame, the hidden backlight and the embedded channel of light were resolved so that nothing technical competes with the landscape — and everything can be serviced without harming the wood.

07 — The valley
Horizonte belongs to the imagery of Costa Rica's Central Valley — the sun appearing over the rim of the mountains, the first light crossing the land.
It is a work made for contemplation, in dialogue with the place where the collection lives: Nebulae, in the highlands of Barva de Heredia, looking out over that same valley.
